Cute And… Not So Cute: Best and Worst Dressed Of The 2013 Teen Choice Awards

Truthfully, I did not watch the Teen Choice Awards last night. I know, I should have. I write for a teen girl website (hi, Gurl!). Watching awards shows is part of my job. But, guys, I just didn’t have it in me. Awards show season ended months ago with the Oscars, but it feels like it just ended yesterday and it was exhausting. I couldn’t handle another red carpet, another round of slightly weird/cocky speeches and basically three hours of boredom. So instead, I went out to dinner to get lobster with my boyfriend, brother and sister and then settled down to watch old episodes of The Sopranos with said boyfriend. Sounds much better than the TCAs, doesn’t it? Yes, it does.

Anyway, I obviously missed a relatively interesting red carpet. I actually enjoy the red carpet for less serious awards shows like these, because it allows the celebrities in attendance to be a little more casual and, thus, a little more fun and wacky. So, although I didn’t get to see any of these celebs in action last night, I did get to enjoy checking out their outfits online this morning. And, let’s be honest, critiquing those outfits is more fun than actually watching the show.

Here are my picks for Best and Worst Dressed. Check it out!

Things I Get From Work: Adidas BOOSTâ„¢ Sneakers

Fact: Adidas loves me. I don’t know why, but I don’t hate it, so I’m not going to question it. For the past year and a half or so, the company has been regularly sending me amazing items that I can’t get enough of. I have enough sneakers to last me until I’m 50-years-old. It is not something I will ever complain about.

About two weeks ago, I got yet another Adidas package delivered to my desk. This one didn’t have quite as fancy packaging as the last two things I had received, but I was still excited to see what was inside.

Obsession of the Day: My New Forever 21 Utility Jacket

Okay, honestly? My weekend was totally boring. Besides Friday night, I did basically nothing except nap, read and hang out with my boyfriend. I guess I needed the rest and the blah-ness, considering the last three weekends I was on vacation (does that sentence even make sense?), but it was still not the best time.

The one good thing I DID do was go shopping. I only went into Forever 21, but I scored some really pretty shirts and finally bought something I’ve been searching for for what feels like forever – a green utility jacket.

Yeah, a utility jacket might not sound like a big deal, but trust me… it is. To me, at least. Every fall and every spring, I walk through the streets of New York City and encounter hundreds of green or khaki utility jackets. And every time I see one, I think, “I want that“. At first, I tried to forget about them. But then I started searching for them online – but since I didn’t know the official name for them, I had basically no luck. The ones I did find just weren’t what I was looking for.

Until I found this one:

Forever 21 Utility Jacket

Love 21 Life In Progress Hooded Utility Jacket, $34.50

This jacket is perfect for those in-between months where it’s not cold enough for a winter coat, but it’s not warm enough to wear nothing. Also, it looks pretty awesome in the rain. I’m not sure why, it just does. It’s chic, totally cute, practical and casual all in one. And I’m totally obsessed.

You can buy it on Forever21.com if you love it as much as I do. I know it doesn’t look super special right now, but seriously guys… I am literally SO excited for the day I get to wear it.

Obsession of the Day: Essie’s ‘Lapis of Luxury’

Lately I have found myself obsessed with my nails. I’ve always loved getting my nails done, or (attempting) to do them myself — when I was younger, I had a huge collection of almost every different color of nail polish a girl could want. But over the years, the busy-ness of school, work, and social obligations have taken priority. For a long time, I only got manicures a few times during the summer, or when they were absolutely necessary, like before a wedding or a party.

But I recently discovered that a simple manicure only costs $6 at my salon of choice, and that is wonderfully cheap for a small indulgence. So, I’ve been getting a manicure every week, and I must admit, it’s great to look at my nails when they’re perfectly filed, trimmed, and polished.

So where am I going with this? I’ve been experimenting with different colors, but a few weeks ago, I finally found one color that I simply cannot do without.

From Essie’s resort collection, ‘Lapis of Luxury’ has become my all-time favorite color for spring. It may look a little drab in the bottle, but on your nails it is shiny and the most perfect color blue. It’s almost more of a lavender-ish/blue, actually. It’s just a different color than what you normally see on nails, and I absolutely love it. I’ve already gotten three manicures in a row with this color, and I get compliments from everyone.

Not to mention that it has great staying power. Essie and O.P.I. have always been my my nail polish brands of choice, but Essie is slowly creeping ahead of O.P.I. I got a manicure exactly a week ago with this color, and until yesterday, the polish was barely chipped, despite lots of showers and cooking.

So if you’re looking for a beautiful and perfect spring nail polish color, Lapis of Luxury is the best choice! I might even get it a fourth time…

Shoes I Need, Part 1

Summertime brings with it so many new and exciting fashion choices. While we are forced to hide our fabulous outfits under heavy coats and weather-friendly rain/snow boots during the winter, during the summer we can proudly show our fashion sense off to the world as we walk down the streets. It’s a time for adorable cropped tops and tiny shorts, cute dresses and skirts of all sorts. It’s also a time for new shoes.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love boots – knee-high boots, high-heeled booties, furry boots that are perfect for the cold – they’re all drool-worthy. But I REALLY love summer shoes. From flip-flops to gladiator sandals to wedges to open-toe pumps, the possibilities are endless. And the best part of it is, I don’t have to worry about stepping in a puddle of dirty slush or ice cold snow.

When I was bored the other night, I started browsing the Steve Madden website. Bad idea. I have a huge thing for floral prints this season, and I absolutely love the look on shoes. Here are several shoes that I absolutely need for the spring and summer season:

Steve Madden WILDD wedges, for $149.95

Too precious for words.

Steve Madden BEVV suede pumps in Royal Blue, for $89.95

Although suede isn’t normally considered a warm weather material, I can’t get over how much I love the color of these blue pumps. They’re so bright and fun that I can still see myself wearing them during the summer and kind of getting away with suede factor. Also, because they’re suede, they’re perfectly appropriate for fall and winter. They would just add a nice pop of color to any outfit.

Steve Madden Karmenaf platforms, for $129.95

I am so in love with these platform shoes. I love the print and the color and the fact that they will make me nice and tall.

Steve Madden Cynthea espadrilles, for $129.95

Is there a more perfect shoe for summer than espadrilles? I think not. These would go with almost anything, and the print adds an adorable component.

Kate Upton for Guess

I have always been a big fan of Guess ads. Unlike most fashion ad campaigns, Guess doesn’t use stick-skinny models wearing an assortment of clothes with odd hair and makeup — the brand chooses gorgeous models with perfectly enviable curves. The ads are usually reminiscent of old glamour complete with big hair, red lips, large sunglasses, and beautiful dotting male models.

Kate Upton’s new Guess Spring 2011 photos for both the accessories and lingerie lines are no exception. The blonde bombshell looks classy yet sexy dressed in pin-up girl styles, her hair set in large, loose curls. The ads are both fun and full of sex appeal. They’re inspiring to me — I find myself wanting to hang all of these on my walls to look at while I pick my outfit for the day.
